Healthy Aging
We
are YouthfulBoomers. We want to age gracefully, stay
active and live our lives to the
fullest.
We also know that, in order to make that
happen, we have to be personally responsible for our own
health and fitness.
Babyboomers are generally health conscious and aware of all the
latest anti-aging remedies available.
Most of us are trying to eat healthier
and keep active.
We don't accept aging as an unavoidable process;
we're trying to postpone it for as long as possible.
Some of us have tried using human growth hormone, botox
injections, plastic surgery or tummy tucks. All
these treatments are considered normal for most adults in
today's society.
Today's population is living
longer. Many of us are planning to
work past retirement age and consequently we're keenly
interested in slowing the aging process. And
the best way to do that is to cultivate a healthy
lifestyle. Poor health does not have to be a part of the
aging process.
Healthy aging requires eating a healthy diet
and engaging in regular physical
activity.
It also includes avoiding tobacco products and taking other
preventive measures to detect diseases, getting screened
regularly for breast cancer, cervical cancer, colorectal
cancers, depression, prostate cancer and diabetes with its many
complications. Effective remedies are available to
prevent or delay chronic conditions like arthritis, depression
and osteoporosis.
Aging involves all parts and systems of our body. It
is not a disease, but it is a gradual process. And we can
speed it up or slow it down and maybe even reverse the
process based on our personal habits and lifestyle.
Those who are in their late 50's are making an effort to
take care of their bodies, and their longevity is
increasing.
As always, Babyboomers are making manufacturers aware of
their tastes and concerns and businesses are making changes to
accommodate the aging boomers. Retirement communities are
sprouting up all over across North America. You can live
in a retirement community now and have an active, independent
lifestyle, then later stay in the same location in an
assisted living or long term care facility as
required.
However, our aging population is also creating a need for
more medical research programs and technology to
meet the needs of the boomer generation. Our primary
focus should be on preventing disease and injury in today's
adult population.
Being healthy now will help you to maintain a
healthy aging process.
